Anita Robinson (1938-2026)
Anita Robinson, 87, a woman of deep faith, resilience, and a spirited love for the outdoors, passed away February 26, 2026 at her home, leaving behind a legacy of strength and devotion. Anita was the youngest child of Valentine “Blackie” and Elinor Hoffman. She was born on December 6, 1938, in the historic town of New Deal, Montana; a short-lived boomtown built for the workers of the Fort Peck Dam. A fitting beginning for a woman who lived a full life.
Raised during the Great Depression, Anita carried the value of that era throughout her life; she was a master of conservation, wasting nothing and finding value in everything. Her family later moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, where she attended school. In high school her vibrant, social energy shone through as a majorette. At fifteen she started her first job at the Panida Movie Theater where she acquired business skills. She later moved to Noxon, Montana where she raised her three daughters. In the mid 80’s she moved to Missoula to be closer to her daughters. There she continued her career in the jewelry industry and later worked in the dental field until she retired.
Anita’s life was defined by her hands-on spirit. She was just as comfortable with a crochet hook or a paintbrush as she was with a rifle. One of her most legendary tales was shooting a bear in her back yard with her .30-06 before her children returned from school. She found peace in gardening, canning, and raising Elkhounds. Her creative side flourished through intricate picture collages and handmade gifts for those she loved.
Anita married John Robinson on July 17, 1999. They enjoyed 25 years together prior to his passing in 2024. Anita is survived by her daughters: Marie (Don), Tracy (Bob), Wendy (Brian), her grandchildren Kyle, Kelsey, Rayce and Rylan and great-grandchildren Maisie, Piper, Hallie and Briggs.
A memorial service will be held on 03/27/2026 at 11:30 AM at Missoula City Cemetery located at 2000 Cemetery Rd, Missoula.
