30 octobre 1942 - 20 février 2022
LaVon Marie (McCurdy) Kom, RN, 79, of Missoula, MT passed away peacefully at home in the company of her daughters and granddaughter on February 20th, 2022 after a month-long battle with several unexpected medical issues. LaVon was born on October 30th, 1942 to Merton and Retta (Wilhelm) McCurdy in Idaho Falls, ID. After LaVon graduated from Lima High School in 1961, she went on to study at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, MT. LaVon was married to Walter Hungate in 1962 and lived in Lima, MT. LaVon and Walt went on to have three children: Lee, Mona, and Todd. After they divorced, LaVon moved back to Missoula, met and married the great love of her life, Alfred Kom, and had another daughter, Melinda. LaVon became a CNA at Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin, ND, and decided to go back to school to get a degree in nursing at Dickinson State University. She continued her employment at Jacobson Memorial Hospital as an RN, kickstarting a lifelong career in a field she really loved. Including 26 years as a dedicated nightshift charge RNU nurse at Community Medical Center in Missoula, MT before her retirement. LaVon retired and spent her time reading, hollering at the TV, attending lunch dates and day trips with her special friends: Rosie, Sue, Lorna, and Jan, and spending time with family. Her greatest adventure was visiting China in 2005, and though she loved it, she said she never wanted to travel again. LaVon was preceded in death by: her parents, Retta and Merton McCurdy, husband Alfred Kom, sister Diane and her husband Norm Pryor, brother Les McCurdy and his wife Dee, daughter Melinda and her husband Cecil Collins, and son Merton Todd Hungate. She is survived by: daughter Marian Lee and Todd Webster of Valley City, ND, daughter Mona Hungate of Missoula, MT, brother Pat and Carol McCurdy of AZ, sister Belva and George Worden of Missoula, MT, grandchildren Dannielle Webster of Fargo, ND, Cody and Sarah Webster of Fort Collins, CO, Joshua Hungate of Missoula, MT, Kendra Whitehurst of Missoula, MT, Caleb Hungate of MT, Joycedein and Joshua Jones of Lolo, MT, eight great grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, and many friends that would consider LaVon family. LaVon was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, the Momma, gram, nana love and friend. LaVon’s family would like to send a special “thank you” to LaVon’s longtime friend Jennifer, and to Hospice of Missoula, specifically our nurses Sam and Adam.
