Recuerdos

Azara Naomi Llewellyn Azara Naomi (Morkert, Stinger) Llewellyn, our beautiful and amazing mother was granted her wish to “go home” on February 13, 2023. She passed peacefully at home in Missoula. Azara was born October 12, 1926, to Mildred and Alfred Morkert in a small cabin in Evaro. Alfred worked for the railroad, so they moved from place to place in the early years, settling in Arlee. Azara lost her father, Alfred, to a railroad accident in 1935 when she was eight years old. Mildred, a widow with five children, then married Allen Chaffin. Azara graduated as valedictorian from Arlee High School in 1944. She attended Missoula Business College, then worked for a title company. Azara married her high school sweetheart, Donald Stinger in 1948. They lived in Missoula for three years, then Ovando and Lolo, before moving into their home in Orchard Homes in Missoula in 1955, where they raised their six daughters. After 55 years together, Don passed away in April, 2003. Azara married Robert “Bob” Llewellyn in November, 2004, at which time she became mom to five stepsons. They made their golden years quite golden, building a house together on the Orchard Homes property and traveling often. Bob passed away in August of 2020. Azara led a full, active, busy life. While raising her girls, she grew gardens, cooking and canning everything the family ate. No one went hungry at her house. She was known for her incredible huckleberry pies! She was the bookkeeper and dispatcher for A&M Hauling, Don’s trucking business. She developed a thriving cottage industry as a seamstress, and became a talented artist working with fur and leather. Azara, along with a furrier and business partner, owned the Fur Boutique for a time in downtown Missoula, then operated her business from home. Azara was very involved with the Orchard Homes Country Life Club, serving as president more than once and receiving a life membership in 2022. She was instrumental in getting the new Bonner Park Band Shell built, an OHCLC project. Azara was also active with the Senior Citizens Center, the Elks Club and AARP. At election time, Azara would be found helping count ballots. Preceding Azara in death are her two loving husbands, Donald Stinger and Robert Llewellyn, sisters Myrtle Eldridge, Judy Lease and Ethel Hoehn, brother Stanley Morkert and stepson Tom Llewellyn, She is survived by her sister, Lois Shaw, brother Allen Ray Chaffin, six daughters, Geraldine Stinger (Don Smith), Diane Stinger, Yvonne Coopmans (Jerry), Donna Elliott (Jim), Clarice Stinger (Craig Hoppe) and Anita Brown (Cody). She is also survived by four stepsons, Steve, Marty (Cindy), John (Beverly), David and stepdaughter-in-law, Diane Llewellyn (late Tom Llewellyn). Azara had ten grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many step grandchildren, Azara was a gentle, loving, strong woman. Always thinking of others, she was a mom and a friend to everyone she met. She was smart, humorous, creative and never afraid to try something new. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. We would like to extend our special thanks to her loving caregivers and the caring people at Partners in Home Care Hospice for their dedicated love, care and support. A celebration of life will be held later this spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
