Frederick Culpepper

Just Cremation

In October 2022, Fred was diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer and kidney disease. His valiant fight ended on March 7, 2025. He was born on August 19, 1951 to William and Marge (Boyle) Culpepper from Easton, PA. He was joined two years later by brother, Bill, and 11 years later by Jim. Fred attended elementary through sophomore year in Dover, Delaware. There he made lifelong friends who shared the love of the outdoors, playing sports and fishing. His family moved back to Pennsylvania and Fred graduated from Neshaminy High School in Bucks County. His fondest childhood memories were spending time at his Granddaddy’s Boy Scout Camp Weygadt in the Delaware Water Gap and fishing in Canada in the lakes that are a part of the Rideau Canal. He attended the University of Delaware before the dream to move out west became a reality. In 1982, on the backroads outside of Avery, ID he met and eventually fell in love with Bev Yelczyn. They wed in 1984 and spent 30 years together. Fred dedicated 25 years to the US Forest Service in Idaho, Oregon and Montana. He was assigned many different jobs. One of his prized accomplishments was the layout, design and contract administration of the construction of the Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Trails with minimal help from Jon Elliot, former US Ski Team/Coach. He also loved being a Wilderness Ranger and explored many remote areas on horseback with pack mules in the Scapegoat Wilderness. Fred became certified as the top-level chainsaw operator and instructor. He was dispatched as a Sawyer on many wildfire assignments. In the winters, Fred groomed snowmobile trails for the Seeley Lake Drift Riders and Missoula SnowGoers. Fred was an expert outdoorsman, fisherman, fly tier and hunter and he shared these passions with close friends and family. In addition, his life was filled with many dogs who he trained to hunt waterfowl and upland birds. They were loving companions and accompanied him on many adventures and trips. Fred loved all sports and was a lifelong Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Penn State fan. When he moved out west, he expanded to the Seahawks, Trailblazers, Mariners and Montana Grizzlies. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim. He is survived by his brother Bill, nephew Dan, nieces, Emmy, Melissa, and Julie, and great-nieces, Sophia and Rosalie. His family would like to thank all the Caretakers with Partners in Home Care and Hospice for their incredible support the past 6 months. He was very proud of his Irish Heritage and wishes this to all he knew, May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face;the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Fred’s wish is to have no ceremony. He asks that people donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project or Partners In Home and Hospice Care in his memory.
