Souvenirs

The good Lord and all his angels have sure got their hands full now. On the 8th day of May, in this year of our Lord, 2025, Marcia Joan Muster found her way to paradise.

Marcy entered this world kicking and screaming on May 24th, 1951. Born to loving parents Frank John "Muz" and Mary William "Billie" Muster in Butte, MT. Marcy was the 4th of nine rambunctious children. Sisters Judy Price, Jeri Knuckey, and Jill Dauenhauer managed to be born ahead of Marcy and siblings Janet Jory, John Muster, Jean Druschel, Jamie Collins, and Jeff Muster came in hot on her heels.

Marcy was a student of St. Ann's Catholic Elementary School in Butte. Even at this early age her unique, independent, and headstrong personality was on full display. She was frequently disciplined for dress code violations due to her habit of wearing neon colored socks. She finished her education graduating from Butte High in 1969.

Soon after graduation, she went to work for Mountain Bell telephone company in the Butte business office as a receptionist in 1971. Never one to be stereotyped, she soon transferred to the central office installation department. In the 70's, this was considered a man's job and women were ridiculed for even applying for an installation job. This, of course, made her want the job even more and she persisted in her pursuit until achieving her goal. She was one of only two accepted for the installation department at the time, a fact she was very proud of.

Telephone office installation went on to be her life long career and she retired in 2005. Marcy's career provided her wonderful opportunities to satisfy her wanderlust. She traveled and worked in most of the western states and allowed her the ability to support her family taking her mother and two youngest siblings on many happy vacations. During her career she met many wonderful people, some even being life long friends, some she considered crazy, and one man who gave her a son.

In February of 1981, Marcy gave birth to her only child, a son named Bryan. The young lad was given the nickname "BJ" after B. J. Honeycutt on the show M. A. S. H., as Marcy had a school girl crush on the actor Mike Farrell. She loved her son very much and spoiled him greatly. She found a lot of joy in supporting her son and her parents. A few years later she was blessed with caring for her niece, Samantha, who she referred to as her daughter. Sam and BJ were the lights of her life and she took them on many trips to places like Lagoon and Salt Lake City. They were provided great lives in general thanks in no small part to Marcy's love.

Her love of family grew in June of 2008 when her one and only grandson, Dorian, was born. During this same time she cared for ailing mother who passed in late 2009, again showing her love for family.

Later in life, she thoroughly enjoyed dining at restaurants, sampling new foods, and playfully harassing wait staff. She especially loved the casino and the camaraderie she shared with the other players.

In 2020, Marcy moved to Missoula to be close to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, as she required increasing help with daily living due to her declining health. The last five years were filled with many festive gatherings with her in-laws, the best medical care available, home cooked meals she didn't have to prepare, and most importantly, time well spent with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. She passed away at home with family by her side.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary, sisters Judy and Jean, brother John, and honorary daughter Samantha.

She is survived by her son BJ and wife Stephanie, and grandson Dorian of Missoula, sisters Jeri, Jill and husband Jim, Janet, Jamie and husband Rob, brother Jeff, and a slew of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Memorial service will be held on May 31st at Sanctuary Church, 2415 Arcadia Dr, Missoula. Service will be at 11:30 AM with lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you play 5 bucks in the nearest Keno machine, take a photo of your attempt to win, and share them either on this post in the comments or with Bryan and Stephanie directly.

I didn't know Marcy well. The times I did see her at a Family Event she was always smiling. She would greet me which made me feel good. May she rest peacefully in heaven. No more pain. Hugs, Tammy

Marcy loved looking at Christmas lights and then coming home to eat Panda Express and watch a Christmas movie. This was her favorite family tradition that we did each Christmas Eve. The little moments like these that I will miss the most.

She had gone skinny dipping with friends from school. She beamed as she answered that question. She was not at embarrassed.

Shortly after meeting Marcy, she quickly became Mama Muster to me and that name stuck for so many who began to call her that as well. She loved it! Mama Muster and I had a special bond. We could relate on so many levels in the working world as we both worked in a “man’s world” and had to always swim upstream to make it. We would talk and laugh for hours and often she’d comment “I know you know what I’m talking about!” She was a tough woman but once she let you in she had a lot of love to offer. Honestly, “beege” as she lovingly called who we all know as Bryan, is quite a lot like her. When we first met he would keep you at a distance with this attitude that everyone had an ulterior motive until he could trust you. Mama muster was no different. But she loved fiercely when she let you behind those walls. I’d take her a white chocolate mocha with peppermint and we would laugh and visit while she indulged herself with that coffee she loved so much right up to the very end. I’ve so many heart warming memories with her as well as so many laughs. She loved to share her “butte salute” with all who knew her. 🤣 (those of you who don’t know was her middle finger) She loved lilacs- her favorite flower and understandably so. They’re such a beautiful fragrant flower. I hunted everywhere before she passed to find any that were in bloom. To our surprise we found two small bunches Kaylee and I got to take to her. I just imagine her now surrounded by the fragrance of endless lilacs! So many precious memories but the one I’ll eternally be grateful for is when she prayed with me asking Jesus into her heart and life to be her Lord and Savior. We now have that blessed assurance of heaven. Til we meet again, mama muster! I love you dearly and will miss our visits every day! With every sip of our “fancy coffee” I will think of you and smile! 💜

Aunt Marcy was always a fun, giving person. She opened her house, to me, so that It would be affordable to attend school, and live, without having to work much, or go into deep dept. We always enjoyed watching MASH, and Golden Gilrs, while enjoying her great Butte Pasties, and Meat Loaf. Will always have fond memories, of the time we wera able to spend together.
