Mementos

After a long, hard-fought battle with pain and multiple health issues, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Robin Nelson passed away peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Robin Nelson was born on October 6, 1953, in Ohio to Marcy and C.A. “Bill” Bishop and relocated with her family to Polson, Montana, in 1955. Robin was soon joined by twin brothers Pete and Paul, followed by Matt and later Marty. Growing up along with her four brothers, her life included many fun-filled moments along with memorable experiences such as excursions to the Bob Marshall Wilderness, skiing at Big Mountain, and horseback riding.

Robin graduated from Polson High School and pursued higher education at the University of Montana, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. During her studies, Robin met Mark Nelson, whom she married in September 1978; together, they shared 47 years of marriage.

Facing limited opportunities in criminology, Robin transitioned into the insurance industry. After several years in Missoula, she accepted a management role at Bishop Insurance Service in Ronan, the agency established by her father in 1958. Robin and Mark moved to Ronan in 1983.

Robin’s career in insurance was marked by her commitment to service and continuous professional development, earning multiple certifications and advancing into leadership roles. She served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Montana in 1996 and subsequently as State National Director, demonstrating dedication to the field and her father's legacy.

In 1985, Robin welcomed her daughter Micah, whose presence brought fulfillment and joy. Robin was meant to be a mom, raising Micah to be a strong independent and loving woman. Having Micah motivated Robin to fight her health issues even harder. Her devotion to family extended to her son-in-law Michael. When Micah and Michael brought Rosie and Isabel into the family, giving Robin the life enriching gift of granddaughters and another reason to keep fighting the good fight.

Believing everyone should give back to the world, Robin contributed generously to the Ronan community, volunteering time, and resources to causes meaningful to her; including service on the Pioneer Days Committee, Christmas Treasures, the Chamber of Commerce (where she served as President), Safe Harbor Board, St. Luke Hospital Board, and St. Luke Foundation Board. She would often “voluntell” Mark where to help, increasing their time spent together.

As her diabetes affected her kidneys, necessitating dialysis, she opted for peritoneal dialysis at home, enabling her to maintain employment and greater autonomy. Robin demonstrated her determination by attending two PBR Championships in Las Vegas while managing her medical equipment and supplies.

In autumn 2015, Robin received a life-saving pancreas and kidney donation from her deceased donor, Jasmine Little Elk. Robin cherished Jasmine’s gift and remained committed to preserving both her own health and the integrity of the transplant.

Throughout her life, Robin was known for her dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence. Robin brought positivity and diligence to every endeavor, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. Robin held friends and family close to her heart and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Robin’s kindness, strength, unwavering spirit, and guidance will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered. Robin leaves behind a spirit that will continue to inspire.

Robin is survived by her husband, Mark; her daughter, Micah (Michael) Kemper; granddaughters, Rosie, and Isabel; her four brothers, Pete (Robyn), Paul (JoAnn), Matt, and Marty; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Robin Nelson’s passing is a significant loss to her family, friends, and community. Her contributions and memory continue to inspire.  The family encourages remembrance of Robin not just with sorrow but also with joy, reflecting on the beautiful life she led and the positive impact she had.
