5 avril 1951 - 21 juillet 2026
David B. Cooney, 75, of Missoula passed away Tuesday July 21st at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He graduated from Butte Central in 1969. His passion for planes and flying inspired him to achieve a commercial pilots license. After working for Evans Plywood and The University of Montana for some time, he retired from the Missoula Airport after 34 years. Although he chose not to fly, he enjoyed being around aviation.
Dave was a kind and generous man. He led a life dedicated to his family, teaching them the importance of integrity and a job well done. He could fix anything, and he was always excited and willing to share his knowledge. He was supportive and encouraging of his children to live life to the fullest and was always proud of their achievements. Dave always wanted to know what was going on, although he was not great at it himself, a little communication went a long way with him. He was the best secret keeper and cheerleader.
A gun enthusiast, he was always shooting, building, buying and educating himself on laws, safety and advancements. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping, the grateful dead, and you would often find him watching the history channel. His love and guidance on everything from home improvement to life decisions will be so dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Jody, sons Tylar (Amy), Jesse (Torrie), daughter Amanda (Geoff), brother Jim and sister Lesley Cooney. Grandkids; Aspen, Layne (Braden), Sawyar, Brayden, Chase, Hallie and Bobby. He’s also survived by, who he called his outlaws, you know who you are.
He is preceded in death by; his parents, Tylar and Leona (Anderson) Cooney, sons Robert and William. Brother Frank, sister Sandra and brother in-law Richard Kiehl.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to our family. The love and support surrounding us has been profound and immensely appreciated. Especially, St. Patrick’s Cancer Center and Partners in Home Care Hospice.
Memorial services will be held for family and friends on Friday August 7th from 2pm to 4pm at The Garden City Harvest Community Barn on River Road in Missoula.
