Alice Mary Bautz
March 5th, 1942 - February 8th, 2025
March 5th, 1942 - February 8th, 2025
Alice Mary Bautz, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025 while her husband held her hand. She lived her last days being cared for by dedicated medical staff, graced by heartfelt conversations with family and friends, and lovingly surrounded by her immediate family.
Alice was the firstborn of five to Alvin and Irene (Witte) Dill. Her childhood family farmstead was in Regent, ND where she attended a one-room country school. After graduating from New England Public High School in 1960, she furthered her education by receiving a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo, ND.
While in college, mutual friends introduced her to Dale. After a few years of courtship, they blissfully wed in June of 1966 and then grew their family with the addition of two children - Chad in 1970 and Shara in 1973. During Dale and Alice’s fifty-eight years together, they made homes in South Heart, Fargo, Beach, New England, Crosby, Shelby, Choteau, Lewistown, Raymond/Plentywood, Opheim, Dickinson, Great Falls, and finally, Missoula.
Over the years, Alice had many jobs and her impactful career included teaching high school home economics and serving as a state and county home extension agent with a dedication to 4-H, providing knowledge and resources, and being actively involved in community events. Alice was a dutiful homemaker – gardening, canning, freezing, baking, and always caring for her family.
Alice was passionate about many things - she enjoyed dancing with her husband (especially polkas and waltzes), creating family traditions and making memories, appreciating holidays and special events, giving gifts and cards, oil painting, crafting, sewing, and collecting bells. She was always creative and had endless ideas and suggestions.
Alice was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and cherished friend. She held close her strong Christian faith and fellowship. She shared her spunk and wit with a tenacity that was unmatched. She had a colossal impact on so many lives and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

When my husband and I moved next door to Alice and Dale they were wonderful in welcoming us to the neighborhood. Alice became a good friend of mine sharing recipes and cucumbers, lettuce, and rhubarb from her garden. She was a delight to visit with and I enjoyed her sense of humor. She always remembered to call on birthdays and anniversaries. My heart goes out to Dale and their children Chad and Shara. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. I will always remember Alice and the fond memories I have of her. Becky & John Harris

My wife Marti and I had the honor and privilege of knowing her while we lived in Missoula and attended the same church. We loved her wit and funny sense of humor. Our bond with Alice and Dale continued after we moved to Tennessee and was strengthened by numerous phone calls and rare visits. Alice may be gone from this world, but she will never be forgotten. She is with the Lord and is no longer in pain. Looking forward to seeing her again.

It is sad for all that knew Alice, she was a special person in all rights. Alice was one of my teachers in my last year of high school. I was going nowhere as a teenager and she could see that. She called me in to her class room and gave me the best advice anyone could ever give to a young person. She made me see that I was capable of doing and becoming anything I wanted. She had faith in me were a lot of others did not. I have lived my life based on that and things have turned out well for me. Sure there have been bumps in the road , but it could have been a major wreck with out the words of encouragement. I know your in a place were there is no more suffering and pain. As you look down on us all now I just want to say Thank You. You were the best.
