James "Jim" Dean Magee
May 2nd, 1956 - October 21st, 2022
May 2nd, 1956 - October 21st, 2022
James “Jim” Dean Magee passed on the evening of October 21st, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. Jim was born May 2nd, 1956, to Thomas Magee Sr. and Annie (Thomas) Magee. He was the second oldest of four sons: Thomas “Tim” Magee Jr. , Richard “Dick” Magee, and Allan Magee. Jim was born and raised on the west side of Missoula, Montana where he attended school, worked and raised a family. He also attended the culinary program of Missoula Vocational School where he learned and enjoyed making decorative apple swans for his children and cooking for family and friends. Jim loved barbecuing and making sure his lawn was immaculate for friends and family to enjoy. He’d care for the lawn of his neighbors when they were unable to do so or just to lend a helping hand. Jim had great pride and love for his children, including his grandson Everette, holding a special place in his heart, spoiling him every chance he got. Jim was a member of the Laborers Union #1334 and very skilled in Heavy Highway and Building & Trades, working many years for Western Materials and American Asphalt running screed, raking asphalt, setting grade and other skilled positions. Early on with a young family he worked tirelessly to support them building dams and road construction from Lost Trail Pass to Jordan, Montana with a few summers working on Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier Park. Jim enjoyed spending his free time doing carpentry and home improvements. Jim was a generous and kind soul, always willing to help others. Jim married Valarie LaMere where they had a son and daughter. Divorcing after 12 years of marriage, Jim and Valarie continued to raise the children amicably with the grandparents help so both could continue their careers in construction. Jim had a strong sense of family, love, and respect. He passed on to his children who took care of him during his time of failing health. Jim showed exceptional strength in his final days allowing stronger bonds, love and closure for his children and family. Jim is survived by his son John LaMere (Jess), daughter Lee Anne Magee (Joe), grandson Everette Howard, his brother Allan Magee and nephew Brandon Magee. A service will be he in his honor on November 6th, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Fraternity of the Eagles located 2420 South Avenue in Missoula.
