Andrew Philip Burroughs, devoted husband and father, passed away on 09/07/2023 at his home in Stevensville, MT. Andrew was born in Chico, California on December 1,1972 to Philip L Burroughs and Lynne Gayle Parlier Burroughs. He was the youngest of three brothers. Andrew grew up on a cattle ranch in near Corning, California. As the son of a cattle rancher, he had a rough and tumble childhood. He often joked that workers compensation had to be paid on the hired men, so all the dangerous tasks were given to the children; so long as all the parts were in the same room, they would probably be okay . . . probably. Growing up tough turned Andrew into a quick thinker and man of action. He was that man you wanted to be with if there were an explosion outside the window. He always knew what to do. Andrew was a bit of a renaissance man. He was incredibly bright and being a member of Mensa was of some import to him. He was an avid reader, and he could quote Shakespeare, thanks to annual summer vacations to the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR and to a mother who was a drama teacher. His favorite genre was fantasy, mental chewing gum as he called it. His favorite author was Sir Terry Pratchett whose satire he adored. He loved history and was a great storyteller. The telling of the Battle of Thermopylae was a favorite around the dinner table. He sang barbershop for a spell in his late teens/early twenties. He loved all music ranging from Luciano Pavarotti and the Three Tenors to heavy metal, swing and jazz. He was also a bit of a handy man and could break and ride rough horses. He was a good cook and pretty handy with a sewing machine. He married his wife Jenny on May 10, 2003. Together they have three children: Jessica, Xander, and Kate. Andrew was a great dad, instilling in his children a love of reading, literature, and critical thinking skills. He followed Jenny to Washington, D. C. area in the summer of 1998, where Andrew completed a bachelor in business at George Mason University. After September 11, 2001, he and Jenny moved back to California and lived in Lodi for a year. After they married, they returned to the East Coast for Andrew to pursue a master’s in business administration, again at George Mason University. After graduation he got a job with Connex, that later became Veolia Transportation, where he performed financial modeling and operational design for transit projects that were out for bid. They moved to Roanoke, VA in January of 2007, and Andrew continued to work remotely for Veolia in various capacities until the family moved to Montana in March of 2014. Andrew was diagnosed with liver disease in the summer of 2015. Six years later he found out he had myeloma, a treatable but not curable bone marrow cancer. He did seek treatment for the cancer, but it had to be halted because it worsened his liver condition significantly. Despite this he outlived many of the statistical models and was described by one doctor as a phoenix. He joked that if ever a plant were named after him it would be a weed that is prickly and hard to eradicate. Andrew is survived by his wife Jenny, their daughters Jessica (2005), Kate (2011) and son Xander (2014), his mother Lynne Burroughs, and brother Tucker Burroughs. He is preceded in death by his father Phil Burroughs and brother David Burroughs. A funeral service and memorial reception will be held at the Community of St. Columba, the small Anglican parish that the Lord guided the family to in the fall of 2018, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Community of St. Columba. Checks can be made out to Community of St. Columba, and mailed to 402 Strand Ave, Missoula, MT 59801. Please mention Capital Campaign/Andrew Burroughs in the memo line.

I was so fortunate to meet Andrew when I did childcare for his children. We would enjoy our afternoon chats when he picked up his kids. What an interesting and educated man! Thank you for your friendship Andrew.

Andrew was a very special friend and we could talk about absolutely anything and usually he was the resident expert on all those topics. I loved how he cared about the well-being of his family as that was his first priority. I will miss him. Gord Ryan
