Recuerdos

Kathleen Martinette (Froehlich) Hauck was born 93 years ago to John and Frances (Steckler) Froehlich in Missoula as one of eight children and passed away on April 6, 2023. She attended St. Francis grade school, Sacred Heart high school, and did her nursing training at St. Patrick’s hospital. She became an RN in 1950. She married Joseph Robert Hauck on June 16, 1951, beginning a long and happy marriage. She began her nursing career at Missoula General Hospital, and went on to work and teach nursing at St. Pats, later taking the position as the school nurse at Big Sky high school for many years. Kathleen and Bob raised five children, and Bob preceded her in death in 2013 after more than 62 years of marriage. She is survived by 2 sisters (Marilyn Harmon and Shirley Seaman), 2 sisters-in-law (Shirley Froehlich and Jean Froehlich), her children: Mary Kay Reinemann (Doug), grandchildren Joseph, Rosa and Elise Marthe (David) with great-grandchildren Henry and Oliver; Joseph Michael (Robin), grandchildren Jacob (great-grandchildren Liberty and Jaxon), Amanda, Cassandra (great-grandchildren Caden and Carson) and Desiree Richey (Caden); Julie Rolshoven (Eric), grandchildren Kaitlyn Jeszenka (Colton) and Cody (Alyssa); Marlene (Tom Pejsa); Jolene; and two nieces that are her “other” daughters: Michelle Harshbarger (Brent), granddaughter Kelsy Lake(Andy) with great-grandsons Ryker and Bender; and Lisa Svingen; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. After retiring from nursing, Kathleen continued to “work” as a volunteer with Big Brothers and Sisters, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and a number of other organizations. In 1995 she was honored for this work with Montana Senior Volunteer of the Year. She touched many lives. Kathleen enjoyed spending time at the Holland Lake cabin with her family, square dancing with Bob and was an active member of first St. Anthony’s Parish, and later Christ the King Parish. She was renowned for her homemade doughnuts and her keep appreciation of her boxed wine. She kept her adventurous spirit throughout her life. She got her first passport at the age of 80 to travel to Austria, and renewed it when she turned 90, because “you never know when you might need it”. There was always room at the table for another plate, and friends were always welcome in her home. She was the heart of our family and will be deeply missed. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 14, at Christ the King at 11a. m. A luncheon will follow in the parish center. A celebration of her life will be held in late August (yes, mom, we are having the party you wanted!), please contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Meals on Wheels, Missoula Aging Services or the charity of your choice.
