Karen Ann Sipe

Karen Gray Sipe, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and kindness that touched everyone who knew her.

Born in 1950 in Port Chester, New York, Karen was the daughter of Frank and Jeanette Gray and the older sister of Janis Nelson, who preceded her in death. From a young age, Karen displayed a warm spirit, a curious mind, and an enthusiasm for life that would define her journey for the decades to come.

In 1970, while attending flight and travel school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Karen met the love of her life, Robin Sipe, a young man from Montana. Their connection was immediate, built on shared laughter, curiosity, and a love of adventure. They married in 1972 in Rye, New York, and soon after moved west to Montana, where they began building a beautiful life and family together.

Karen’s deep sense of community and creativity shone through in everything she did. While working at the local YMCA, she made a lasting impact—not only through her warmth and dedication but also by spearheading the creation of the very first skate park in Montana, an enduring testament to her belief in fostering safe, joyful spaces for young people. Her energy and vision brought people together and inspired countless others to get involved and make a difference.

A devoted wife to Robin, a loving mother to Allison and Aaron, and a proud grandmother to Peyton, Karen’s family was the center of her world. She will be remembered for her generosity, humor, and the way she made every person she met feel seen and valued. Whether she was sharing stories over coffee, tending to her garden, or planning her next family adventure, Karen radiated warmth and optimism.

Karen’s life will be celebrated by family and friends during a Celebration of Life gathering planned for June 13th at Playfair Park from 12-4 in Missoula Montana.
