Souvenirs

Nancy J. Dodd, age 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, July 15th, with her partner Bob Dischner by her side. Nancy was born on February 13, 1943, in Kirkland, Washington to Thomas H. and Edna May Johns. As the eldest of three children, she was raised in Helena alongside her brothers Thomas and Stephen. Nancy attended Helena High School, where she met and married David Middlemas in 1959; together, they had seven children: Vicky, Valerie, Robert, Tyler, Jeffery, Wesley, and Stephenie. Throughout her life, Nancy dedicated herself to caring for her family, including her own children and three foster children. She also worked in various care settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, and private in-home care. Nancy often welcomed neighborhood children and her nephews Kyle and Kevin Johns into her home. Following her marriage to David Middlemas, Nancy married Stan Dodd and became widowed upon his passing. In 1982, she began a lifelong partnership with Bob Dischner, with whom she lived out her days with. Nancy enjoyed a range of activities including attending local demolition derbies, camping, and boating at Seeley Lake. She was particularly known for her creativity—her hobbies included> crocheting (hundreds of aphgans), quilting, needlepointing, doll-making, and other crafts. She is survived by her partner, Bob Dischner; her brothers Thomas H. Jr. and Stephen (wife Linda); four children: Robert Middlemas (wife Tracey), Wesley Middlemas (wife Ronda), Tyler Middlemas (wife Gina), and Stephenie Birgenheier (husband Rich); grandchildren Jennifer, David, Sara, Travis, Colby, Mason, Taylor, Myles, Mallory, Mitchell, Chandler, Ryan, Marissa; nephews Kyle (Linda) Johns and Kevin (Jeri) Johns; and numerous great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Edna May Johns; and her children Vicky Middlemass-Jette, Valerie Waters (Middlemas), and Jeffrey Middlemas (survived by wife Susan and their children Miranda, Sara, and Jeffery). The family extends sincere appreciation to friends and caregivers for their compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
