James Henry Gullette, Jr
4 juin 1939 - 6 avril 2026
4 juin 1939 - 6 avril 2026
James “Jim” Henry Gullette, Jr, 86, of Superior, Montana, died on Monday, April 6, 2026, in Missoula, following a period of declining health.
He was born June 4, 1939, in Kentucky, to James and Virginia Gullette. When he was young, the family moved back to Superior, MT, where he graduated from high school in 1957. Following graduation, he joined the Army and was stationed in Indiana. He bravely served for two years before being honorably discharged.
In September 1964, he married the love of his life, Lila R. Leavens. They moved back to Superior and grew their family with the birth of their son, Mike. Jim joined the Diamond Match Mill, working in several positions, but truly enjoyed the trade of saw filing. Diamond Match was sold to DAW Forest Products who operated it for ten years. Crown Pacific bought the mill and ultimately closed it. Jim went on to work for Tricon until he retired from millwork in 2001. Jim’s skills went beyond the mill, and he built the family home on Diamond Match Road, where the family still resides. Jim is known to have the best-looking lawn on the road.
When he wasn’t busy with work or keeping up his lawn, he loved to spend time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was also known to spend time on his four-wheeler in the hills and mountains around Superior. He was a true outdoorsman.
Jim is survived by his son Mike; granddaughter Jamie; nieces Theresa and Tracy; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Lila, his parents James and Virginia; and his sister Selma.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been afforded, and Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Darby Cemetery.
A memorial service is planning for 1:00pm, Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the United Methodist Church in Superior.

Jim was a classmate and a good friend. But we were the class of 58. We have lost too many as we age. Bless you Jimmy!
