James Doyle Powell

James Doyle Powell, 73, of Drummond MT, passed away on Friday Sept. 8, 2023 at home with his family, after battling cancer since 2011. Jim was born November 7, 1949 in Lawton Oklahoma, with parents James Powell and Bonnie Golden. In 1965 after graduating from Northridge High School in California he joined the US Navy as E-1 Seaman Recruit. In 1984 he married his love Julie Carolyn Storvik on October 15 in Honolulu Hawaii. In 1994 after serving in the US Navy for twenty-eight and a half years, he retired as an Electronics Technician E-9: (MCPO) Master-Chief Petty Officer of the Navy” receiving an Honorable Discharge with Honors in April of that year. After his retirement the family moved to big sky country and settled in Drummond Montana where they have stayed ever since. James Powell was preceded in death by: James Powell, father; Bonnie Golden, mother; Alvin Powell, brother; Juanita Barton, sister; and Cordelia Shindler, Aunt; Survivors include his wife Julie, Drummond MT; daughter Angela Chambers, Kansas City MO (with family: Bill Chambers, son-in-law; Tyler Herring, grandson); daughter Jen Martini, Akron OH (with family: Gary Martini, son-in-law); son Mike Powell, Seattle WA (with family: Jenna Durant; Jerry Powell, grandson); daughter Michelle Powell, Drummond MT (with family: Eric Wilkins, son-in-law; Jo Dee Newton, granddaughter (with family: Everleigh Newton, great granddaughter); Tommy Cole, grandson; Jacob Cole, grandson, and Linda Wilkins, granddaughter); Brother Woodrow Powell & family, San Fernando CA; Sister-in-law Linda Storvik, Seattle WA; Niece Stephanie Storvik, Seattle WA; and the Bartons family. Memorial services will be held on Saturday September 16, 2023 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at the Drummond Community Center with reception to follow.
